Graeme Andrews

In 1993 Graeme Andrews donated over 15 thousand negatives to the National Maritime Collection. His collection was compiled during his role as contributor and later editor of various boating magazines includes images relating to Ken Warby’s unbroken World Water Speed record in SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA (1978) with a focus on speed boat racing on the eastern states between 1965 and 1980.

A prolific photographer and contributor to the historical record of speed boat racing on Sydney Harbour and its surrounding waterways, Graeme’s vast knowledge and expertise made an invaluable contribution to cultural organisations including Sydney Heritage Fleet, the Naval Historical Society as well as the Australian National Maritime Museum. Andrews has significantly contributed to the preservation of our shared maritime history.

The museum has welcomed Andrews in hosting many launches of the 27 books he authored. He has worked closely with the museum to catalogue his collection, providing invaluable image identification and research skill to ensure the accuracy of location and subject details.
