HistoryCommissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS KANIMBLA on 6 October 1939 though its commander Frank Getting and almost all of its crew were drawn the Royal Australian Navy. On 13 December 1939 HMS KANIMBLA departed Sydney for Hong Kong and was based there for the first half of 1940 patrolling the Chinese and Japanese coasts. In June 1940 it was reassigned to Singapore. Donald Cooper Blunsden enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy soon after war was declared in September 1939 as a shipwright.
