DescriptionAn oil painting depicting the two masted steam screw wooden schooner SS FRIENDSHIP at sea. The FRIENDSHIP was owned by B.M. Corrigan & Co. and on 28 November 1912 was on a voyage from the Tweed River to Sydney, New South Wales with general cargo. The ship was wrecked on rocks at the end of South Wall at the entrance of Tweed River with the loss of all cargo but no life.HistoryFRIENDSHIP was constructed in 1897 at the Rock Davis shipyard in Sydney. It was used primarily for the transport of cargo along the coast such as tallow.SignificanceThis painting of the SS FRIENDSHIP is part of group of objects held by the Australian National Maritime Museum that represents the coastal shipping industry and also gives a glimpse into the existence of the small shipowner, with his self-created prosperity and the signs of his world adorning his home.
