The Sydney Tram Depot features behind the ship.HistoryThe French sloop AMIRAL CHARNER was named after French Vice Admiral Leonard Victor Joseph Charner. It was a Bougainville class colonial sloop which fought at the Battle of Koh Chang in the 1941 French-Thai War. It was launched in 1932 and scuttled at My-Tho in 1945.SignificanceThis photograph is representative of the French vessel AMIRAL CHARNER in Sydney Harbour in 1934.

The collection provides an extensive and well-documented coverage of the changing styles of shipping in the port of Sydney before the decline of the coastal trade.
