DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [972] consists of transparencies taken by amateur ferry and speed boating historian Graeme Andrews relating to inshore and offshore speedboat racing in and around the eastern states of Australia. It includes 971 black-and-white and colour transparencies depicting speed boats and hydroplanes, races, titles, tests, boat shows, water skiing and other events at Lake Menorah, Copeton Dam, Yarra River and Macquarie Falls. Some of the boats depicted are VOODOO, WAST TWO, CRUSADER, CAPELLA, NORDIC, PROGRESS GLADIATOR, MARINER 34, SEAHAWK, STEBER, NEW ENDEAVOUR, MONARK INVESTIGATOR, BROOKES, STARCRAFT and CREELCRAFT.SignificanceThis collection illustrates the boom era of speedboating in the decades after World War II. The increasing affordability and widespread use of cars, engines and the advent of mass production made speedboating affordable and the sport became a popular pastime.
