DescriptionBULLAREN was photographed at the F & S Buoy Neutral Bay on Sunday morning 5 June 1932 at 10.55am. This image was captured from a vessel travelling between Mosman and Circular Quay via Cremorne. At this time BULLAREN was operating under a Swedish flag as a cargo vessel.HistoryBULLAREN was a 5722 ton cargo ship built in 1918 by Gotarevken at Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1940 it was seized by the French government and then Germany who renamed it TANGA. In 1961 it was sold to American interests and renamed PAMARU. The vessel was scrapped in 1962 in JapanSignificanceThis photograph is part of the F G Wilkinson Photograph Collection, comprising more than 700 glass plate negatives of ships in Sydney Harbour between 1919 and 1936. The collection provides an extensive and well-documented coverage of the changing styles of shipping in the port of Sydney before the gradual decline of the coastal trade, and in a period which was probably the peak reached by commercial shipping in Australia. The backgrounds also reveal the changing face of the city and harbour foreshores.
