Description18 pearl shells - these shells have no particular distinction, but could be from the shells used as ballast when the Georges left New Guinea in 1982 and sailed their boat (a Fairmile launch named the William Saville-Kent but nicknamed the Willie) to Australia. DG discarded all the existing ballast and replaced it with pearl shell which in those days had a sale value. This group of shells would be good to use in a display to tell that story. Information given by Nick George.
