DescriptionMade by Triumph International, this 'Nizza' swimsuit design has an open back, with hi-cut briefs attached to the front panel and black fabric chain links. The nylon one piece white swimsuit with a black tropical motif print has a detachable halter neck strap, ruching at the sides of the bust and a narrow back strap fastening between the shoulder blades with a daisy shaped metal clasp.HistoryBy the 1970s the enthusiasm for the bikini had been replaced by a fashion for flattering, strategically designed cut-away one piece styles that combined elements of both the one and two piece swimsuit. With the growing interest in gyms, aerobics and body building in the late 1970s, women began to flaunt new parts of the body. Swimsuit styles began to reveal much more cleavage, buttocks and thigh. Joan Gray was a popular swimwear model for Jantzen and regularly appeared on the cover of PIX and other magazines from the 1940s. A favorite war-time pin up girl, she also appeared in the Australian propaganda short film, 'From Laces to Lathes'. SignificanceThis swimsuit was worn by the Australian swimwear model Joan Grey on cruise ships and at the beach. It is representative of the cut-away swimsuit styles fashionable in the 1970s.
