DescriptionA coloured framed lithograph titled 'Port of Hobart: the Finest Deep-Water Port in Australasia'. The poster was a supplement to the Daily Telegraph, October 30,1912. At the centre of the lithograph is a map depicting the Port of Hobart. Surrounding the map are features of the port's wealth and Tasmanian attractions such as local timber merchant, advertisement for sunburn, accommodation in Hobart as well as Harbour and wharf improvements. The bottom left reads: "The Daily Telegraph Litho, Launceston, Tasmania".HistoryThe centre of the picture focusses on map south-east Tasmania ie Hobart and shows all the shipping channels leading into Hobart. Surrounding this main picture are lots of relevant advertising such as a list of the Principal Wharves and Piers and their length and water depth alongside and Hobart Shipping and Trade timetable.SignificanceThe lithograph presents a snapshot of Hobart as a trading port in 1912. It is a promotional publication, setting out the companies and industries on which the port's wealth and future expansion depended, and the
facilities it could offer to potential importers and exporters.
