DescriptionInvitation from the Lord Mayor of Sydney (Clover Moore MP) to Ms Mary Louise Williams, to view the Freedom of Entry March by the Royal Australian Navy, Sydney Town Hall Steps, 14 March 2009.HistoryFreedom of Entry marches or parades are carried out by naval personnel and involve entering and marching though a city. The Navy is generally granted permission to enter the particular city by the local mayor, civic official or figure of authority within that city. On 14 March 2009 the Royal Australian Navy exercised its right to Freedom of Entry in the City of Sydney for the first time in twenty years. The march was the largest parade of naval personnel in Australia since the World War II Victory in Japan Day Parade in 1945. More than one third of the RAN members participated.
