DescriptionA book titled 'Voyages de Gulliver en dessin par E Morin' [(Voyages of Gulliver in drawings by E. Morin]. A version of the famous four part tale specifically designed for the children's market. The drawings by Edmond Morin perfectly capture the fantastical worlds Gulliver finds hims4elf in and the characters he meets along the way.HistoryA brilliantly illustrated children's version of Jonathon Swift's classic tale of the adventures of Lemuel Gulliver. Written in 1726, Gulliver's Travels was an immediate success and has become one of the most frequently reproduced works in the English language; and together with Robinson Crusoe it is the most reproduced tale for children. This version from the mid nineteenth century is one of the most beautiful and imaginative pictorial renderings of Swift's story. Edmond Morin, a well-known illustrator of the period, perfectly captures the miniscule Lilliputians, the giants of Brobdingang, the absent-minded inhabitants of the floating island of Laptua and noble horses of the Utopian land of the Houylinhnms. Morin's drawings have a vigour and unerring perspective which makes this one of the most desirable of all juvenile editions of Gulliver. SignificanceGulliver's Travels is one of the great 18th century tales of the sea. Highly fictional, it none the less fed into the widespread interest in travel books and journals. In an era where there was still much to be explored of the globe, these travel stories allowed readers to fantazie at the possiblities of adventure in addition to making a subtle commentry on the poitical and ecomonic state of Europe at the time.
