DescriptionPhotograph of a printed image of a barque under sail with the words 'HJERTNES NORGE' visible along the centre of its hull.HistoryNorwegian steel barque HJERTNES was launched in 1891 at Grangemouth Dockyard, England, and built for A.J. Freberg of Sandefjord, Norway. HJERTNES was sold in 1917,modified to a barquentine rig and renamed NELLIE. The vessel was sold again several times during the 1920s and underwent another name change, this time to TILLI.SignificanceThe Hall photographic collection provides an important pictorial record of recreational boating in Sydney Harbour from the 1890s to the 1930s. The collection documents the lively sailing scene in Sydney during this period and features images of vessels ranging from large racing and cruising yachts to the great array of skiffs and the emerging technologies of motorboats. Images of many iconic vessels are also included in this visual record.
