DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [068] consists of newsletters and other documents relating to the Hood 23 Yacht Association of Australia. The class was designed Warwick Hood. It includes 44 association newsletters; 1984/85 and 1989/90 NSW State Championships point score spreadsheets; the 1973/74 association constitution; measurements of registered boats; race notifications and results; meeting minutes and lists; letters and invitations, and other documents.HistoryThe Hood 23 was designed by Warwick Hood in October 1966 and the first boats were produced by the Hood Boating Company Ltd in late 1967. Although designed as a family day-sailer for Sydney Harbour the design became popular in Queensland and was also sailed in Victoria. In 1973/74 the first New South Wales Championships were held and the first National Titles were held in 1980. The Hood 23 Yacht Association of Australia is now down to a fleet of around 10 with about four to six boats racing. There are still Hood 23s associated with significant Sydney and with regional clubs. In 2004/5 Hood 23s were sailed at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Bribie Island Sailing Club, Jervis Bay Sailing Club, Metung Yacht Club, Metung Yacht Racing Club. The state championships are held at the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club under the authority of Yachting NSW.
