DescriptionA series of scrapbooks and loose photographs of sailing ships.HistoryIron-hulled clipper ship CIMBA was built by Hood of Aberdeen in 1878 for Alexander Nicol & Co. Between 1878 and 1898 CIMBA sailed between Australia and London, servicing the Australian wool trade.
CIMBA was sold to Norwegian owners in 1906, primarily for lumber transportation. In July 1915 CIMBA became stranded in the fog near Pointe Des Monts, Quebec, and was lost.SignificanceThese albums and photographs form an excellent documentary resource on Australian sailing ships and highlight the role collecting images by an avid sailing ship enthusiast and maritime heritage collector.1850-1950
