DescriptionThis serving fish knife is part of a collection of stainless steel tableware made for Sitmar Cruises.HistoryIn 1970 Sitmar Line lost their Australian Government contract to bring out migrants to Australia. They consequently turned to Cruising to make money, changing their name in the process to Sitmar Cruises. In 1988 they were bought out by P&O Line, becoming P&O Sitmar Cruises until becoming P&O Holidays in 1991.
SignificanceThe fish knife relates to the SITMAR Line and FAIRSTAR, which carried thousands of post-war assisted British migrants to Australia until 1970.
