DescriptionThe Dutch submarine KXII aground on the rocks of Fairlight. 1949.HistoryKXII was launched in November 1924 as part of the Dutch post World War I naval strategy and despatched to join the fleet in the Dutch East Indies. At the fall of Singapore in 1941, KXII and other were transferred to the command of the commander-in-chief, eastern fleet from Dec 1941 to March 1942. Following this KXII served under US operational control before being withdrawn from service in Sydney in 1944. KXII was sold to a private buyer and later placed on public display in Manly. While being moved to calmer waters in 1949, it broke away and struck rocks at Fairlight where it stayed for a year. KXII was eventually removed and scrapped in 1951.
