DescriptionPainting of HMAS SWAN III by Russ Ames.HistoryHMAS SWAN III was a River class destroyer escort laid down by the Williamstown Dockyard at Melbourne in Victoria on 16 February 1965, launched on 16 December 1967 and commissioned on 20January 1970. HMAS SWAN III was paid off on 13 September 1996 and became the first ship to be scuttled as a dive wreck. The vessel now lies off Dunsborough in Western Australia and has created an artificial reef for corals and marine life.
