DescriptionRoyal Navy corvette at anchor in Sydney Harbour. Identified on the verso of the photograph as 'probably HMS BRISK'. HMS BRISK served on the Australia Station from 1864 to 1868. In 1865 it undertook escort duties to New Zealand during the Land Wars.HistoryHMS BRISK 14-gun wooden-hulled screw sloop of the Royal Navy, launched 1851 from Woolwich Dockyard. Served in the Crimean War and the West African anti-piracy patrol. From October 1864 it was assigned to the Australia Station where it undertook escort duties during the New Zealand land wars before leaving the Australia Station in 1868.
