DescriptionThis collection of 8 programs for the launching and dedication of ships span the period 1958 - 1985. The programs feature the launching of the following vessels MV ACCOLADE, MV BASS SHORE, MV CAPE YORK, MV SOUTHERN TIDE, SS IRON FLINDERS, SA JUBILEE, FALIE, MV LADY JOYCE and HMAS COOK. This archival collection was assembled by Alan Rice whilst serving as a merchant seaman in the Australian coastal trade.HistoryThe replica of the HMS Buffalo was built in South Australia, in the beachside suburb of Glenelg, that for many years was a land based restaurant on the water's edge. The HMS Buffalo in Adelaide was a replica of the original ship that sailed to South Australia in 1836. Guests would eat down below and after lunch or dinner they could explore the ship and pay a visit to the museum that was located on the upper deck.
