DescriptionA Miller & Whitworth in-house working drawing, made in July 1972 in order to move the first 45’ IOR yacht GINKGO, from the builder’s yard for launching. HistoryThe slipping plan, marked, design ‘drawing 29-11 is the original slipping, or docking plan from 1972, made to move the 45’ IOR yacht GINKGO from the builders, Lars Halvorsen & Sons Pty. Ltd., to be launched in July 1972. GINKGO was built of wood, but the same drawing and the information it provides, would have also been used to move and launch the aluminium APOLLO II and for all future yachts of this design series. A docking plan provides important information about the underwater shape of the yacht, where to support the hull when lifting or moving and would have been used to at least up to 1976, when ‘design 30’ (‘GUIA IV’) was designed, built and launched. SignificanceDesigned by Ben Lexcen, the first 45’ IOR yacht GINKGO was moved and launched in July 1972. The information provided on this drawing is of particular importance as it provides an insight into the ongoing history of this successful design.
