DescriptionTiger Sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier) are the only extant member of its family Galeocerdonidae, and are easily identifiable by the dark stripes on their body. These sharks are large apex predators of tropical and temperate waters that are known for trying to eat anything leading to the nickname the “garbage cans of the sea”. However, the population is threatened by active fishing for their fins, liver oil, meat and for sport.
