HistoryAccording to the donor, Muriel Hunt, the cap was owned by her mother's brother George Cameron Sparks of Mount Street, North Sydney. George drowned off the American coast while first officer of the schooner MARY DODGE in about 1900. George was in his early twenties when he died. The MARY DODGE was a wooden, three masted schooner built in 1882 and owned by Charles Nelson of San Francisco.
