DescriptionThis is a scale model of the tug SYDNEY COVE with a clockwork mechanism. It is a two decked superstructure with a single funnel and mast behind the wheel house and boat.HistoryTug boats have long been a prominent element of Sydney Harbour and played a major role in the city's development. SYDNEY COVE was built by P K Harris at Appledore, Devon England and launched in 1956 for J Fenwick of the Sydney Harbour Board. It featured a 6 cylinder oil engine. In 1977 Fenwick replaced the SYDNEY COVE with a newer tug using the same name. The original SYDNEY COVE was sold to Charter Craft and Marine Services Pty Ltd and it does not again appear in Lloyd's Register from 1979-80.SignificanceThis ship model is representative of the clockwork type models made by amateur ship enthusiasts. It also highlights the career of the tug SYDNEY COVE in Sydney Harbour between 1956 and 1977.
