DescriptionA linocut print titled 'Fish' by Pooaraar Bevan Haywood.
This linocut depicts two large fish in the centre surrounded by stingrays and fish of varying shape. Editioned 23/30.HistoryPooaraar Bevan Haywood was a prolific linocut printer. Pooaraar travelled the country extensively when he was
younger and through this experience was able to express the landscape in a unique way. His linocuts reflect his preoccupation with evolving forms, the relationship between the spirits and nature and the continuity of Aboriginal presence within the landscape as a timeless phenomenon.
SignificanceIndigenous Australians have a long and deep relationship to the water, through personal experiences and cultural influences. In modern art pieces, by using non-traditional art mediums, Indigenous artists are making fresh combinations of evocative and strong works that reaffirm this connection to water.
