DescriptionThis blue, brown and cream striped silk bathing cap was made in the early 1900s and would have originally complemented an elaborate bathing dress with matching swimming shoes, stockings and parasol. HistoryDuring the first decades of the twentieth century women bathed in knee-length woollen dresses, worn over bloomers or drawers trimmed with ribbons or bows. These swimming outfits were then accessorised with black stockings, lace-up boots or sandals, and cloth hats. SignificanceThis is a rare example of a women's bathing cap used during the early twentieth century.
