DescriptionPainting of the three masted fully rigged ship DUNSYRE, built in 1891, entering San Francisco Harbour. Seen from the broadside, the vessel's name is visible on the bow and the crew can be seen on deck. The vessel flies two flags the British Ensign from the spanker and the company flag of Elders Mort on the main mast. Land is visible to the right and an unidentified 3 masted vessel appears in the background.HistoryThe DUNSYRE was a fully rigged steel hulled ship of 2,149 tons built in 1891 in Glasgow by W Hamilton for Potter Brothers. She passed into the possession Elders Mort Shipping and then into US Robert Dollar Company and was able to make the trip of Wellington to San Francisco in 38 days.SignificanceRepresents the last of the windjammers, built for cargo capacity instead of speed.
