The print was originally made to be reproduced in the 'Q and A' Cookbook published by the ABC in 1986. `3/50 Bondi pudding' inscribed in lead pencil lower left corner beneath image. Artist's signature `Bruce Goold' inscribed lower right corner beneath image, the number `4384' inscribed lower right corner of sheet. HistoryPrintmaker Bruce Goold was trained at the National Art School, Sydney. He was a member of the artist collective Yellow House between 1970-72. Goold employs thick line and broad colour in his coloured linocuts and woodblocks to create images of Australian flora and fauna, as well as South Pacific inspired esoteric and symbolic subjects. SignificanceThe print is significant for its interpretation of the quiseential Australian life saver. It is typical of the light hearted use of the life saver in the 1980s as a symbol of Australia stands in contrast to role lifesavers played as an icon of Australian manhood.
