DescriptionThis hand-written account by William Lockerby detailing his time on board the vessel JENNY which left Boston in 1807. Lockerby was first officer on board the ship and was returning home to his family in Liverpool, England after taking part in trade in the Pacific Ocean and China.HistoryWilliam Lockerby left Boston on board the JENNY as first officer on 2 June 1807 to return to his family in Liverpool three years and seven months later. He was on an American trading voyage to the Pacific Ocean and China. Lockerby's account details his visit to Sydney in 1807 and the seizure of the vessel for attemped rum smuggling. He then recounts as his aventures while marooned on Fiji and his return to America via China on the "General Wellesley".SignificanceThis journal is important in narrating an account of a trading voyage to the Pacific Ocean and China, including a visit to Sydney.
