DescriptionThis pot tipper is used to bring craypots aboard a boat. The flat rectangular base attaches the pot tipper to the boat. Pot tippers make hauling in a full craypot much easier.HistoryLobster fishers work from boats that vary in size and design according to the areas they operate. Boats range from five to twenty-five metres in length. Most are fitted with labour-saving automatic pot-hauling and tipping gear, and echo-sounding equipment to locate reefs. Some hold the catch in bags or crates and unload daily, while others cook the lobsters whilst still at sea. Most boats have fishwells or deck tanks with circulating seawater to keep the catch fresh.SignificanceThis item is an example of the types of fishing technology and equipment used in the Lobster (Cray) Fishing Industry.
