DescriptionDinner menu for the SS MOOLTON for the 26 May 1949HistorySS MOOLTAN was an ocean liner and Royal Mail Ship of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O). She was completed in 1923. She was requistioned from the company during the Second World War first as the armed merchant cruiser HMS MOOLTAN (F75) and then as a troop ship.
She was returned to P&O in 1947 and resumed her pasenger duties in 1948, primarily focused on the British emigrant route to Australia.
MOOLTAN was retired from P&O service in 1953 and scrapped in 1954.SignificanceShip menus became important souvenirs for passengers travelling aboard. They were often signed by other passengers and usually featured decorative covers and were mementos of elaborate meals served.
