DescriptionPhotograph of Pyrmont Bridge taken by Fred Hardie for G. W. Wilson & Co. in 1893. Inscribed along the bottom of the image is ‘Pyrmont Bridge, Sydney. 30,0006. G.W.W.’ the latter being the initials of the photographer. The black and white image shows the old wooden Pyrmont Bridge looking across to Sydney to Sydney Town Hall and St Andrew’s Cathedral. In the foreground is a pile of wooden planks on a wooden wharf. On verso the date ‘1893’ is inscribed in pencil.HistoryIn 1882 - 1883 the photographic studio of G W Wilson & Co in Aberdeen sent photographer Fred Hardie to Australia. At the time the studio had become one of the world's largest publishers of 'views' and Hardie was responsible for recording major buildings and landmarks in the main regional and metropolitan centres. His brief was also an overland journey from Cairns to Gawler in South Australia, using full glass plates.
