It was the weekly edition of The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper and ran from 1860 to 1938. As well as news, current affairs, and fantastic photography, it included everything from fiction and poetry to amusing comics and caricatures between striking sketched covers, all printed on high quality paper. It also had an extensive sports section and bold advertising reminiscent of the period. The Sydney Mail’s special editions were highly sought after, including editions published for Christmas, editions commemorating the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the opening of Parliament in Canberra and numerous royal tours.
