HistoryOwned by the Union Steamship Co. of New Zealand the vessel was sailing from Port Chalmers, Dunedin, to Melbourne when it was wrecked on a reef off Waipapa Point on 28-29 April 1881, resulting in the worst civilian shipping disaster in New Zealand's history. Of the 151 passengers and crew on board, only 20 survived the shipwreck.
