This photograph was found in the William Field album of watercolours (00000950) which contains several watercolours of Davos.HistoryFrom the middle of the 18th century, Davos became a popular destination for the ailing because the microclimate in the high valley was deemed excellent by doctors and recommended for lung disease patients. Robert Louis Stevenson, who suffered from tuberculosis, wintered in Davos in 1880. It also became associated with winter sports such as skiing and speed skating.19th century
