DescriptionA pencil and crayon drawing of a World War II destroyer and the immortal words of Admiral Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 - England Expects this Day Every Man Should Do His Duty (a variation on the actual signal message that was sent). Robert Thomas Boland enlisted in the RAN in November 1942 at the age of 18 and remained in naval service until May 1950. At the time of his discharge he was serving aboard HMAS KUTTABUL as a stoker mechanic.SignificanceThis drawing is part of the Boland collection which offers a small glimpse into the life of a sailor aboard a World War II Australian naval ship.
