HistoryDouglas Macdonald wore this uniform as electrical engineer officer on board MV
SALAMAUA from 1943 to 1946. This 6,676-ton ship was registered in Suva, Fiji, under
the British flag, and was owned by W.R. Carpenter Overseas Shipping Ltd. It was
built in Glasgow in 1920. It was requisitioned during WWII. Douglas Macdonald was a qualified electrician when he joined the ship, aged 20 or 21. After coming ashore in 1946 he did not work at sea again.Wentworth Tailoring Company
