DescriptionThree black and white negatives depicting writer Graeme Andrews and his daughter Carina when she was four years old in Ken Warby's garden in Concord, New South Wales. Andrews was a boating writer and a early supporter and long time friend of Ken Warby. They met in 1965 at the Royal Motor yacht club in Toronto, New South Wales.HistoryAbout this series of images, Graeme Andrews writes: "This is a series of images actually taken in the Concord area back yard of Ken Warby. I am riding the bike and my now 46 yo daughter is sharing the little (and noisy) motor bike. The photo was taken in July 1974 and I and my family were visiting to discuss ‘Warb’s’ plans." Graeme Andrews followed Ken Warby's journey from 1965 when they first met. Andrews wrote the first story about Warby's speed record goals in a 1972 edition of 'Seacraft' magazine. SignificanceKen Warby, SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA's designer, builder and driver, achieved his world water-speed records on a shoestring budget. The boat was built over two years in the backyard of his suburban Sydney home, using stringers, brackets, stock bits of timber, plywood, screws and epoxy, and launched in 1974.
