It includes a 1934 club annual report; a letter written by Daisy Beattie (nee Gunther) to Joan Lega; a postcard depicting Daisy Beattie and cox in rowing skiff; a program for the club's first annual regatta in 1933; two reports on the history of the club; and one photograph depicting the club's members at Rodd Island.HistoryThe Balmain District Ladies Sculling Club was formed in 1915 and operated on a professional basis until 1925 when it became amateur club for one year. In 1930 the club again decided to operate on an amateur basis and changed their name to Balmain Ladies Rowing Club. The club's first amateur regatta was held on march 1933.SignificanceThis collection offers a rare personal glimpse into women’s rowing of the 1930s in Australia.
