During her first voyage from Sydney to London in 1931, Elsie travelled third class on the Orient liner ORONTES via Cairo and the Suez Canal. After a week-long English tour, Elsie took an overland trip through Europe, followed by a second cruise on ORONTES to Norway and the northern capitals. Elsie returned to Sydney via Canada and the Americas. In 1956, travelling under her married name, Elsie undertook a second voyage on the Orient line to London, South Africa, South America and around the coast of Australia to Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania and back to Sydney.
