DescriptionThis archive series numbered [001] - [009] consists of material relating to the Ballina Surf Life Saving Club and lifesaver Jim Flanagan. It includes three certificates from the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia, a newspaper clipping from the Northern Star, and five photographs depicting Ken Watson with Bob Brydon, the South Ballina rescue and resuscitation team and junior team, and a motor launch unloading passengers.SignificanceJim Flanagan was a surf lifesaver with the Ballina Surf Life Saving Club on the far north coast of New South Wales from the 1920s onwards. The material in this collection is significant in chronicling some aspects of life of a typical lifesaver in the early days of the surf lifesaving movement in Australia.
