DescriptionPhotograph of Gundomar Eibegger, of Radio Austria interviews an Austrian child, prior to the departure of the migrant families by train to Genoa to catch ship to Australia. Group of men, women and children on a railway station platform. Gundomar kneeling to talk to young boy with microphone in his right hand, has recorder in white plastic case at waist level. Many children are in arms of parents. Behind, railway carriage, open windows, several adult males staring down. Strip of paper attached to original print typed 'A happy group of Austrians who will soon be "New Australians" are interviewed on tape by Austrian radio-commentator and feature-writer Gundomar Eibegger just before the train takes them from Salzburg, Austria, to Genoa. At Genoa they boarded the ICEM transport SS AURELIA and sailed on March 8 for Australia. Eibegger is travelling with them from Genoa to Aden, where he leaves AURELIA and flies on to Sydney. He will record a program when migrants disembark from AURELIA at Melbourne, Victoria, on April 9. Eibegger is radio-commentator for Radio Austria and a feature-writer for Weltpresse and Neue Zeit newspapers. He arrives in Sydney on March 24, by Qantas, for a two months tour of Australia, arranged by ICEM (Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration (ICEM) and the Australian government, to promote Austrian migration to Australia'.
