BiographyFrederick's of Hollywood was founded in 1946 by Frederick Mellinger, a New York based lingerie manufacturer who opened his first Los Angeles store on Hollywood Boulevarde in 1947.

Mellinger's vision was to introduce a sexier look to American lingerie and women's fashion inspired by what he had been in Europe during World War II. His designs were worn by film stars such as Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe and Mae West and his Hollywood associations boosted the company's image.

While best know for lingerie, Frederick's of Hollywood also made swimwear and womens fashion that sought to capture the glamour of the Hollywood screen siren. During the 1980s Frederick's went more maintsream opening stores in shopping malls across America.
