Francois CogneFrench, 1829 - 1883
François Cogné was born in Paris in 1829. In November, 1855 he left London for Port Melbourne, Australia where he established himself at Ballarat. He stayed in Ballarat for three years and produced a number of lithographs that provided a visual record of the large mining centre. Cogné moved back to Melbourne in 1962 where he started working with Charles Trödel producing lithographs. He subsequently returned to Paris in 1864.
