BiographyGuillaume de L’Isle was the first scientific cartographer and for his age was a leading figure in geography. He used mathamatics and astronomy to interpret the charts of his predecoors. He was a member of the Académie Royale des Sciences and also appointed as ‘Premier Geographe du Roi’, the firs at official cartographer of the king.
