Adam and Lemaitre
Augustin Francois Lemaitre (1797-1870) was a prominent engraver and lithographer in nineteenth century Paris. During the 1820s Lemaitre worked with Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, regarded as the inventor of the first photograph, on fixing a negative image onto paper. Victor Adam (1801-1866) was a respected lithographer who worked on several major publications of Pacific voyages including Dumont d'Uville's Atlas Historique and Francois-Edmond Pâris' 1841-1843 Essai sur la construction navale des peuples extra-européens or Essay on non-European naval architecture, of which Adam and Lemaitre produced all the engravings of naval architectural plans, sections and drawings.
