J and S Maw

BiographyGeorge Maw began the family business in 1814 when he purchased a surgical plaster business and grew it into a factory that produced surgical instruments and various medical products.
In 1826 George retired and his sons John and Solomon were running J and S Maw. By the end of 1835 it was just Solomon Maw who then moved the growing business to an address in Aldergate Street in London. The business expanded and in addition to medical products also now promoted themselves as providing a Druggists Shop Fittings service (cabinetry, glass cases, storage jars etc). When Solomon retired in 1901 the business was renamed S Maw Son and Sons. It operated from 1940 - 1973 as Maw's Pharmacy Supplies until it was sold in 1970 to The American company International Telephone and Telegraph Corp.Inc.
