Captain Thomas RobertsonScottish, 1819 - 1873

Captain Thomas C Robertson was born in Scotland in 1819 and immigrated to Australia in 1853. He was Master of the clipper ship LIGHTNING that was involved with trade between Australia and New Zealand. Robertson was a keen amateur painter who utilised his time in harbour by painting ship portraits. He spent a large portion of his life as a captain at sea and had a number of his paintings exhibited in New Zealand. He moved to Japan in 1871 and died on 8 July 1873.
