BiographyJohn Debrett (1753-1822) was born in London, England. As a boy he became an apprentice to bookseller and publisher, Robert Davis in Piccadilly. In 1780, he worked under the journalist and publisher, John Almon, who handed over the business to Debrett when he retired in 1790. Debrett continued to sell books, despite being bankrupted twice, until his retirement in 1814. He died on 15 November 1822.
