James Hingston Tuckey

BiographyJames Hingston Tuckey was born in County Cork, Ireland. He joined the Royal Navy as a midshipman in 1793. After his voyage with HMS CALCUTTA in 1802-1804 he published his account of the voyage. While still in the service of the Royal Navy, Tuckey was captured by the French and detained in France for ten years. He died in 1816 while exploring the Congo River having been promoted to Captain and leader of the expedition.
