William E Pidgeon

BiographyWilliam Edwin Pidgeon was born in Sydney and studied at the J.S. Watkins School and East Sydney Technical College. He began his professional career as a cadet artist for the Evening News and won prizes in the 'Australia at War' exhibition in 1944-45 and the Archibald competition three times in 1958, 1961 and 1968.

During World War II he was an official war correspondent for the Australian Women's Weekly and Consolidated Press. His work demonstrates great skill in depicting the everyday life of soldiers and airmen behind the lines.
